What are these under my hood ???
Hello all I got a 1982 lincoln mark vi and I see a few things under my hood I'm not to sure on what they are and where they go to. There a few hoses that I know are vacuum hoses but don't know exactly where they plug into? Also there a bracket on the driver side that was bolted to the valve cover but seem to have 2 blocks together circled in BLUE and one that looks like a sensor circled in RED, one more thing there a hose that's just hanging on the driverside as well that looks like it's connected to the fender circled in YELLOW? can anyone please help me on what these are and plug into. pictures attached, Thanks in advance

Here's the under side of the bracket with 2 blocks circled in BLUE

Here’s a diagram of all the underhood EEC III components, and vacuum diagram if you have EFI rather than FBC.

Emissions and fuel controls.
And people thought the 70s were bad (for engine bay hoses and junk).

Find out what component the other end attaches to, and then use the vacuum schematic. Is there a hose attached to the EGR valve?

As you see in the picture it's hooked up to to the fender side to something circular?

Are there other hoses coming out of that circular unit? If not it is probably a vacuum reservoir.

Re: What are these under my hood ???
It could also be the evaporative canister. I don’t recognize it. Try to pull some vacuum on it (your lungs will work fine), and if it holds, it’s probably the reservoir shown in the diagram(unless it leaks). If it doesn’t, it’s the evap canister.
It’s very likely that a previous owner has messed around with the plumbing, trying to get it to run better. It’s very common to see EGR valves, and the associated solenoids bypassed.

Re: What are these under my hood ???
Ok I'll try, so what does the egr valve look bypassed? If not should I bypass it and what's the benifits in doing that? I'm trying to clean up the motor area a little better but it's so much hoses and wires in this thing
Re: What are these under my hood ???
Another thing I need help on that I don't see in the diagram is the hoses I think 2 that would be attached to the top of the air cleaner circled In pic reference below, mines didn't come with a factory air cleaner so just added a edelbrock style circle air cleaner, so if I can find them could I plug the hoses off?

Re: What are these under my hood ???
Yeah, you can plug them. That was a thermostat to direct vacuum to the snorkel to heat the incoming air to the EFI body when needed. If you drive much in moist cool air, you’ll find out why the factory did it that way.

Re: What are these under my hood ???
In the '70s there were few if any consequences in plugging and isolating the EGR valve. A guy I knew who had a '73 Mark IV was able to pass Washington-state emission checks with an isolated valve, and he didn't know yet that it was isolated.
In the '80s, however, that can be a different story. Starting in that decade, engines became gradually more dependent on those emission doo-dads. You may still be able to run without it, but there may be irritating warning lights and computer codes to make running conditions a bit rougher. Unfortunately, EGR valves routinely clog and require periodic replacement.

Ok I guess I will keep it on. So how would I know if my egr is working correctly?
