64 beltline window sweep

Post by TONY NZ 64 »

Am going around in circles trying to figure out what rubber/belt/whisker to use and what position it sits in the trim. I have the stainless trim and know how to attach it to the door frame.
Some photos would be great. I have 2 pieces of J shaped rubber moulding, the straight part of the J has metal reinforcement in it, the angle part of the J is flexible. This would go against the glass as it slides up and down.
Is this J moulding what I should be using?
How high in the stainless trim should it sit ?
Does it only run against the glass or glass and chrome?

I have just figured out how to use the draw function on this iPad. Sorry for the double up of photos.
1st photo. - yellow arrows point at stainless trim in place. You can see the opening where the rubber sits in
2nd. - the J shaped rubber. It has a small lip on opposite side to the long lip, looks like it should sit on the top outside of the trim ? ?
3rd. - the stainless trim

I have a very poor camera, which sucks with close ups, but here is the front door trim from my '67. In this case, the authenticity manual will have better info than I.

Lincoln has a 2 part type, with a rubber lip over a fuzzy base, I have not seen this elsewhere, oddly though, there appears to be no rubber part on either rear door, nor any sign that one used to be there. I have no access to my parts cars right now, but I think the '62s have it.

The rubber has 4 slits where it rides along the division bar.(below my thumb) Once assembled, the rubber sits 1/4 inch below the top of the SS trim.

All 3 parts are held together with staples, I have removed some, so here is what it looks like separating them.

Thanks Fraser.
I also just found a Nathan Wilson video on the window belt sweep. I forgot to search his videos. Saw one on vacuum lines too which is a bonus.
Thanks again.

Mine do not have that small edge, or it has been flattened with time. I could not find any reproduction parts that matched when I looked a few years ago, but I am terrible at finding things on the computer. Steele has, since then, started selling rubber for our cars, so maybe they have something now.

An old guy (me) says to use velcro, but I can't remember if it is the sticky or the felty side. Wayne

The staples were done by a special machine. The 55-57 chevy guys have the "whiskers" and the staples come with them. See below for my signature as to how I know. You have to be VERY careful with the staples and the have to be buried into the whiskers so they don't scratch the window.
