Re: 2023 Mileage Challenge Thread (OFFICIAL)
Here is an update on my 2023 miles. I believe the total is 164 miles. If I'm gonna bust the 1,000 mile barrier I'd better kickstart myself.

Oh, it's okay, Rick; luckily I can read upside-down.
So, Rick's odo count as of today is 39,788.4. Keep 'em coming, Forum members!
On a side note to Stu's post, I'm getting somewhat riled up for an upholstery job myself. It may not even happen until next year, but this year I'm expecting to be closer to a slew of options where car upholstery is concerned. As Junction City has no real options, I had been forced to postpone Frankenstein's interior refresh indefinitely; I'm going to see what San Antonio has to offer. Not sure how much the average price has gone up since my last check about 6 years ago, but at least the leather skin is not a factor; I still have the skins I had bought back then, so all I'd need is somebody who can acquire the foam-rubber and probably a few seat springs (well, definitely a few seat springs, at least three of them are broken).

Re: 2023 Mileage Challenge Thread (OFFICIAL)
Bump for my second quarterly report. It's not nearly so much as the first quarter, mainly because I've been dealing with the aftermath of what happened right after my first report. Latest was trying to find and fix the cause of a very disquieting clacking noise at the wheel that got hit. Thankfully, it seems that the symptom made the cause sound worse than it actually was.
So, here's the tally so far: 7,557.6 miles on the odo. That makes for 3,090.3 miles since the last report; 8,714.7 total so far...and counting. With luck, my next report will be from Texas.

Re: 2023 Mileage Challenge Thread (OFFICIAL)
I’ve noticed a lot of sideways photos lately on the forum and I can only blame users for not rotating their devices when they take the pictures, but some of them look ok in the thumbnails and then are turned when clicked to embiggen.
So here’s rick’s picture fixed. I did this all from iPad Pro 12.9” 2nd Gen. with the A10X processor running iOs16 (2017 model, latest OS, so there’s nothing super advanced going on.

The un-orientated pictures is some sort of forum software glitch. I've had that happen before at other forums where pic is upright on the phone, it's upright in the preview after its been uploaded then its turned when the post is submitted. What's stranger is I've seen where 2 pics are posted and only turned one.

Okay...it's gotta be said, nobody said it yet, so it might as well come from me...!
Almost 800 miles, that's a long drive for coffee, Mark! Must be some good coffee, though, wherever it is...

Twenty-two mile drive this evening under an almost full moon. Great temp outside so windows were down.....it's really nice driving a car that doesn't buffet your ears when windows are down. Mind you I was mostly at 45 miles an hour unless another car came up behind me.

Re: 2023 Mileage Challenge Thread (OFFICIAL)
Someone needs to explain that to me because I really don't get it... why is it on every classic car I have driven or riden in from 1970 and back dosen't try to blow your ears out with the windows down at 70 mph? These new cars get crazy when you Roll the windows down @70mph! Never did understand that but I guess it an aerodynamics thing that's over my head..

I’m glad I’m not the only one who notices that. Back in the day, I suppose if a design blew air violently at the left side of your head, it was back to the drawing board. Then with CAFE requirements, the aerodynamics engineers said “Why don’t we just make AC standard?”
You could say the same thing about vent windows…”who smokes anymore?”

Re: 2023 Mileage Challenge Thread (OFFICIAL)
Nah...by the mid-'60s designers were coming up with the thought of eliminating the triangles entirely for some ungodly reason; and A/C became standard on the high-cost cars and was already being considered as standard for lower-class cars, years before CAFE was even concocted.
I think it does have something to with aerodynamics...or specifically, one little feature of pre-'70 cars affecting said aerodynamics. I say the vent windows have a lot to do with the answer to that question. Nearly all cars before 1970 were fitted with them, with only a handful of exceptions. Somehow they deflect enough wind drag that newer cars cannot, making the 4-70 cooling tactic much more tolerable. Their beneficial purposes extend beyond that of smokers (of which there are still many, even though we may be reluctant to publicly confess to it nowadays).
