Realized that I did not share my restored year-of-manufacture plate with the forum. I sent this out and had it back within four weeks. Cost, IIRC, was about $60. Really finishes off the car nicely, I think.

"So many cars I would like to add to my list and so little time and money to do it all in a lifetime"

I know that feeling. Oh and money comes into play too.

So, a sad part of my Mark III journey....I travelled to western Pennsylvania about a month ago because I was getting ready to go through Earle's parts hoard. I got a text from Jim the night before stating that his father Earle had passed. I wish I would have been able to meet him as he was instrumental in so many of the Lincoln clubs through the years and also a huge supporter of the Lincoln Museum at Hickory Corners. Just received my November-December Continental Comments last night and there is a multi-page tribute. Rest in peace, Earle. I will take good care of your car.

Figured that I am overdue for an update so thought I would share what I've been up to. In usual fashion, I have started taking apart the upper part of the engine to get things overhauled. Never realized how much more involved that this 460 is compared to the 462. Suppose it has a lot to do with the emissions system adding complexity. I've already started the parts ordering and will be making the rounds to take various pieces here and there around town to start the rebuild process.

Next weekend I plan to get the heads removed and haul those in for evaluation. Have already got the intake/carb, heater hoses, radiator, fan, air pump, distributor, alternator removed for refurbishing. I will plan to reassemble the top of the engine before I work my way onto the front.

I was told by the prior owner that this engine has never been opened up. It's going to be time for a new timing set and all new gaskets. Oh, and paint to make it purty. Insides look pretty good and there wasn't excessive leakage outside.

Trying to decide whether or not I want to use a high volume oil pump or not.....

Lastly, I discovered that my car has the original AC compressor on it indicated by the intact FoMoCo tag on it. Holy shit! Astonishingly, it still works, too. I sure hope I don't have to replace it since everything available now is of low quality.

The car also has the original coolant hoses on it. Daring fate driving around with those!

How do people strip their intake manifolds? My sandblaster says they don't do intakes.

Last photo is where I ended the day.

You must be pretty handy with a wrench... I had a hell of a time getting that passenger side smog crossover tube bracket off. I couldn't get mine from the top and had to get it from underneath on the lift. I ended up getting so flustered with it I removed the ABS system so I could get my hand up there. Are you going to delete the smog system?

As for the blasting they can fo it. They probably think you want the inside done. I have had multiple used intake manifolds powder coated and they all have to be blasted first.

Still learning after many years, but feel like I can tackle a lot of stuff and have built an arsenal of tools for about everything.

That crossover tube was a pain in my ass too. It took me a while to figure out how to get the bolts off. Eventually, I just used a ratchet with a standard socket on it and went in from the top. Having the valve covers off allowed for more working room. Going to be an even bigger pain putting it back on because somehow I will need to figure out how to hold the bolt, the retention bracket and the ratchet all at the same time. Nothing three hands won't be able to cure.

I am going for as close to as a concours restoration as I can get so will be retaining all of the smog equipment. Not really much more work, just takes time. All I really need to do is figure out where to send the smog pump for it to be freshened. Thought about just having my blaster strip it and then throw it back on...

I will check with them again on the intake. They wouldn't do it last time, but maybe they misunderstood what I was after.

Just got a call back from radiator shop. She is due for a recore as the old one is leaking. They said they could do that without an issue. There were also some stress cracks in the tanks. All in, about $500. More than I have had to spend on previous cars, but I guess I just got lucky with those. Damn near everything is factory original on this car so bound to find some issues with 52 year old parts.

On another note, I took my smog pump in to be cleaned up and realized the front plate has about three cracks in it. Don't remember it coming off the car that way. Since I am restoring as close to factory original as I can, the smog equipment is going to be put back on. Now I just gotta figure out if there is a replacement for this piece/can it be replaced? If not, I may have to find an organ donor as Tony calls them. Any advice?

That'll do. I really have no idea what they're worth. $50 shipped? I dunno. Let me know.

I honestly don't know if it's worth buying mine since the bearings squeak in it when you spin it. Maybe if you can find someone to rebuild it but then if you did that you could have rebuilt yours with a new plastic fan piece.

For $1,000, that must mean a core is worth $700. Maybe I should just sell mine lol

Wow. That's infinitely more info than what is provided by the Ford shop manual.
