Is this VIN plate correct? Please Help

Details such as correct colors, plating material, inspection marks, orientation, and even the number of wipes that should occur for a vacuum-powered windshield wiper system after pushing the "wash" button.

Is this VIN plate correct? Please Help

Post by umust »

Hello. This is my very first topic and sorry for any inconvenience in advance. Let's get to the point;

I live in Turkey and i'm very interested in classic cars(that i already have a 76 oldsmobile). An opportunity arose for buying a 64 continental and after some research on internet, i doubted if it's the exact car regarding what's written on the VIN plate(please see attached file). I also would like to share the link so you can see the car itself.

https://www.sahibinden.com/ilan/vasita- ... 0758/detay

I truly appreciate if anyone can tell that the car and the plate match.

thank you.

Mustafa

Only way to know if that VIN tag is correct for the car is to check the VIN stamping on the inner fender inside the engine bay. I can already tell you that the exterior color of the tag is not what is on the car, but people repaint cars all the time (in this case from arctic white (color code M) to black). The rivets used to attach the tag are also suspect, but that could have been so that the car could be repainted. Interior is not original, either, if that matters to you.

Technically that isn't the VIN plate. That plate was provided to make data available easier for vehicle ID and warranty purpose. For official VIN as stated above it is stamped into the cowl either the left or right side. (See shop manual) And I would agree the rivits are NOT correct.

That's a reproduction plate and it should be 4Y82N425948.

As mentioned, the original VIN is stamped in the engine bay on each inner fender just above the rear control arm openings.

Good eye Dan. Didn’t notice the second character being incorrect.

That would suck to pay for a reproduction warranty plate and have it be incorrect!

Ouch

The rivets and the perfectness of the plate told me it was a repro. Catching the digits was a little luck and a little bit obsession.
