Original MSRP for 1980 Mark VI ?

Any Lincoln fact related question can be posted here. Questions such as how many Contintenal convertibles were produced in MY1965? How much was the Town Car option in 1969? What size of tire was standard on a 1953 Premiere? or Does the Mark II retractible prototype still exist?

Original MSRP for 1980 Mark VI ?

Post by choust1 »

Does anyone have any data on the original MSRP of the 1980 Mark VI models? Base vs. Signature? etc. I know there was a large price jump from 1979 to 1980 as a result of the raging inflation at the time. I'd love to see any window stickers or Marti reports anyone may have for documentation.
Thanks in advance for your help.

MSRPs commonly change during a model year (especially in periods of high inflation) so prices for 1980 Mark Vis could vary depending on build date.

Base MSRP (before destination charge) at the start of the model year:
1980 2 door = $15,424
1980 4 door = $15,824
1980 Signature Series 2 door = $20,940
1980 Signature Series 4 door = $21,309

The designer series trims (Blass, Cartier, Givenchy and Pucci) were option packages.

Excellent! and thank you. This was just the information I was looking for. Do you have a source I can reference for the data (or even a window sticker image)? I ask because a friend and I have been having a debate over this question. He claimed the Mark VI Signature jumped to $25,000+ base in 1980. I don't believe that large of a jump, considering the economy at the time, would have been possible.

In 1980 to 1981 I worked for the company in the Parts and Service Division and traveled in the eastern Washington area. I was asked to go to a LM dealership in Spokane WA and inspect a Mark with a carriage roof. The issue was the roof wasn't attached correctly and the dealership GM said it could not be fixed correctly and wanted to send the car back. I was to inspect it and write a report. I gulped because when I got there the sticker was $22+k and I was going to be the messenger to say the car was very pretty, very loaded with a crooked roof. It was a two door Mark, not sure if it was a designer or signature or ??? The reports at the time were hand written in triplicate. My copy that I kept for a bit had a tag on it that I made, "The $22,000 Mistake". The car was sent back from the dealership to the assembly plant.

One source is the "Standard Catalog of Ford" published by Krause Publications but there are others. As I mentioned, base pricing did increase during the model year but not by thousands. I'm not 100% positive but doubt that a 1980 Mark VI Signature Series even with every factory option added could exceed $25,000 MSRP, let alone the base price of one. I think most 1980 Signature Series models fell in the $22,000 to $24,000 MSRP range with options.

Not counting limousines, I believe the only mass produced 1980 domestic brand car that could top $25,000 MSRP (with options) was the Cadillac Seville Elegante.
