nunzo's 64 LCC build

Post by nunzo »

Might as well put up a thread as i've been lurking a good bit

About the car...

1964 Continental Convertible. 27,494 original miles. It's been hidden deep in my cousin's garage at his house for the past 17 years. I've been trying to buy it for the last 5 with no luck, but his wife is sick of it being there so it had to go. I'm not going to say how much I paid for it, but there's quite a few family members pissed off at the low number :D

it was originally white/white/white, but was repainted a highlander green 20+ years ago. the engine doesnt turn over, but hook a battery up and everything electrical works, including the top mechanism. it's been on blocks the whole time, in a climate controlled garage.

pics from when we moved it to the garage (please disregard the truck tires used for transport)

Nice! Couldn't help but notice the non-64/65 dash in your models, any reason?

you know....you had to bring that up :P

the only model i could find online for purchase was a 62 sedan, i had the guy modify the exterior to 64 convertible specs and convert to a file type i could use in my software. all in it was $200, but to redo the interior wouldve been an additional $450. so, i'm too cheap to pay for that minor of a fix, and too lazy to convert that surface to a single, flat part.

that said, it bugs me. it also needs to be black to match.

You ever think about doing a brown/tanish convertible top. BMW had a z3 with that combo and it looked sweet. Looks good regardless, just throwing an idea at you!

@suicide65 - no ball busting taken ;)

@smeeluv - i thought about it, in fact i might be limited to tan depending on the type of top i go with. but the interior is white/tan, so either will match.

was thinking about doing a tan carpet anyways. i'd prefer black to hide dirt, but tan matches.

I dont see if you mentioned the gas tank unless I missed it, but you may need to have that refurbished to get any old gunk out, and itll make it like new. Theres a place called Gas Tank Renu here in Fl that did a good job on mine. Ph # 407-464-1929.

spent a little time at the garage this weekend

- got the front kit mobsteel kit installed, with shorter monroe shocks and notch. installing the rear this week.

Image

- took out the rear seats (rather easily, as only 2 screws were holding everything together) to prepare for the tunnel mod

- got the driveshaft rebuilt by a local for $125

- rad is out for a recoring

- all new suspension bushings up front

- ordered a new aluminized exhaust. was going to do stainless, but needed a cheap placeholder this year.

- optima redtop installed

- good news is the crank turns freely. water pump not so much. bought a rebuilt one from MarkII.

- diamondback 3-3/4 whites are sitting ready to be mounted

- gas tank is out, really clean, so we're just going to clean it out.

- ended up actually losing the damn original key (only one), but found some ford blanks in the glovebox. then, my buddy calls me yesterday to tell me that he found my key at his parent's house :D . so getting those other 2 cut as backups.

- also found a ton of documentation with the car, including an original service manual like the one i bought on here :) . there was a breakdown of the vin too, showing that the car has a limited slip and was originally white/pearl beige, not triple white as i was told.

- we cycled the top, but blew one of the hoses in the trunk. bummer. but it seems liek the top works. need to get that replaced here next month.

- and to give an idea of how dirty this thing is, here is a quick polish with a rag and some mothers:

Image

- currently looking for some smaller tires and wheels for cheap, as the car is sitting on those massive 31's :dpuke:
