Re: My 69 project
Super sharp! I love wire wheels. I had 20 inch Daytons on my 90 Camaro convertible. Red rims and chrome spokes and hubs! Icool look!

Re: My 69 project
Quick question Bill. I bought some used wire wheels just like yours and the chromes starting to peel. Do they sand blast the chrome off and then powder coat or do they just powder coat right over the chrome?

I went right over the chrome on my rims. I had one of my guys do some metal finishing on em before I blasted and coated them.
If these were for a customer, I would suggest they have the chrome stripped before coating. Chrome is very hard and powder coat is a soft coat. If you were to hit the rim pretty hard, the chrome doesn't give or flex with impact but the powder coat will which will more then likely cause it to fail.
Seeing's how these are mine, if I have issues later down the road no big deal! Will just burn em and do em again.

Re: My 69 project
Awesome thanks for the response. I'll get a quote on stripping and coating versus new chrome ones when it's time.

Re: My 69 project
It just keeps getting better and better! I hope mine looks half as sharp!
I was going to bring that fifth wheel down to you Friday, but my daughter (the one with the Elco) ended up in the hospital. We'll swing by when she's all better!
