Got back to work yesterday on the Lincoln. The 1st thing we did was install the gas return line. We still have to make the soft connections on each end but the line is back up under the car. Then we installed the cab linkage, gas pedal, and all the linkage between the pedal and the carb.....

Image

After that we installed the hood release handle and under dash bracket, got the hood opening.....

Image

Then after lunch we installed the brake booster, master cylinder, all the hard lines in the front of the car, filled the reservoir and bled the brakes.

Image

Image

We also got the windshield wiper cord run through the dash and firewall and connected it to the wiper motor. (sorry no pictures)

I did have a question. The brake pedal, after bleeding has good pressure but does not pop up by itself. Not sure why. I looked in a couple other lincolns and there are no springs to help with the return of the brake pedal. Any idea why the pedal stays down?

Try loosening the nut on the actual pedal. I had this same problem, i even sent my booster off to booster Dewey thinking that there was a hole in the diaphragm or a broken internal spring or something. After i got it back in I was having the same problem. If you disconnect the pedal from the booster and the pedal doesnt swing freely something is wrong. I backed off the nut about a halfa turn hooked it back up and it pops right back up.

On Sunday 5/25/14 the guys worked without me. Looks like they got the stereo wired into the ignition system and also dropped the exhaust and completed all the final welds. So the exhaust is buttoned back up and were getting closer to firing the car up for the break in and putting the interior in. Here is a picture of the stereo alive.....

1962 Interior Install

Post by jesse_emel »

Sunday 6-9-14 we got busy with the interior installation. 1st thing we did was un-box the carpet set from Leather Restorations. We fit each piece onto the floor and then got busy with the adhesive glue. The carpet took us about 2 hours to install with 2 people. Looks amazing and once covered up with the kick pads and kick plate it should looks very clean. Since we were on a roll with the interior we brought the seats down off their shelves and got busy with them and the seat belts. We spent about an hour banging the front seat gears and motor with a rubber hammer until it started working (not kidding) Here are some progress pictures of the interior.....

After lunch we gathered all the remaining pieces for the steering wheel and put that together.....

Also got the gear indicator put together and installed.....

Stood back a bit and admired our work.....

Not bad for 1 days work. Carpet, Seats, Seatbelts and Steering Wheel installed.

Thanks Reijer, I think next is the door panels, "B" pillars and headliner. Then the interior should be pretty complete.

Detailed Paint Pictures

Post by jesse_emel »

Here are a few pictures of the final batch of paint. There is 1 piece that needs fixed which is an upper "B" pillar trim piece. The paint flaked off for some reason so it needs etch primed and re-painted and we also have to flip over the radiator cover and paint the other side.

But here are some pictures of the parts in the paint booth....

On Sunday 6-22-14 we got the "B" pillar covers on the inside of the car. After we had those done we installed the black plastic windlace on all 8 of the door jambs. We got the lower center speaker attached to the speaker grill and ready for install. And just for fun we installed one of the Scuff Guards and Kick Plates (Just to see how they look)

Also got some of the rear door jamb hardware installed. Still have a little work to do to button it up but it's closer.

Next weekend we plan on pulling some major hours to see if we can get to car finished. Were all tired of working weekends. We would much rather be out enjoying our summer. So the rush to finish is on....

 I apologize in advance for this silly question, but have you factored in how to cover that wire loom going into the door?
