So a little update on Lorelei.

Her master cylinder is bad or theres a massive leak in the rear brakes. So ill be takling that once i get the other two done. Isnt it fun when ALL cars develop some problem at the same time? The Crown Vic needed all brakes..ALL of them, discs bads, front back and shoes for the parking break. That was a hell of a job with the crappy made in china brake parts (apparently china is the only place that makes brakes now). But thats done, and the 73 is done (as much as i will be doing probably since im broke lol)

I was thinking master cyl because well i didnt see any leaks, but then it hit me, if there is NO fluid in the reservoir, then there might not be anything left to leak...d'oh! so ill check that. Plus i have to do her 6 month inspection so ill be taking the rear wheels off to look under the drums and see if the wheel cyl are leaking.

Ill post pictures too, once i start 8)

i didnt take pictures becausei wussed out. i had the shop do it lol....it cost me the same as if i would have done it, since i know i would have to cut just about every brake line, and even replace wheel cylinders from stuck fittings.

The master is working just fine, it was just a loooot of air in the rear that threw things off big time. So im happy. Im going to take Lorelei out. She needs a good bath, then some pictures :D

So i finally got Lorelei insured for 15k agreed value. Not sure about the company, but i had little choice when it came down to the type of garage.
in her spot
in her spot
The spots arent the biggest, but its a secure place, that warm in the winter and not rained on. Im hoping that will delay any paint issues (shes showing her age, with original paint, and sitting outside for at least the last 5 years ive had her)

I was going to repain the whole body and reweld the rotted lower fenders, but that money will have to go to revive the Crown Vic.

What do you guys think? will the garage keep her from getting the paint cracked any worse? It might be about two years at least until I can get her done. (not to mention working on my Phd will really kill my free time to spend on her)

I did take her out for a long drive, topped of fluids (oil and atf, since she does leak a bit), but she started right up, and even her headlight covers were done for 3 weeks just sitting there.

Im just happey that she wont get totaled for some stupid thing happening with regular insurance, and that shes covered. Plus the spot next to me is empty, and to her right is a dealership parking lot with new cars, that have those foamy door guards (although lets face it, new car metal vs 72 Continental metal :D )

As a side note, i drove my Camaro to her, and you forget how smooth a 43 year old car can run after riding in a car with rock hard shocks. She was quiet too, with her windows up. She really is a good car, and a testament to what we get out of our old girls

My dad was getting the mid 20s but the car was much newer then. it was 9 years old, and he tuned down the carb, and ran manifold vacuum.

I figured hitting 16 would be a good day.

Took her out for a spin, going to a car show, a halloween show, the last of the season for me, and what better what to end the carshow year, that to win a trophy.

I was stumped, i just brushed the dust off her, did the spray wax a bit when i parked, and that was it. Was a long drive there, and without taking my meds and the neckbrace on meh, i said oh well. But she still looked purty, and i guess she looked it for the judges too.

She does put a smile on my face, driving at 85 :o and smooth as silk.

I have a picture of me holding the trophy but my phone cant email it...oh well. Still, was an awesome day. Any day is great when our old gals get recognition from others.

Scares me to death to think where exactly a rogue driveshaft could enter the driver after entering the car. OMG. :smt010

Yeah, thats no laughing matter...just like a tire blowing out at high speed, although maybe...maybe, the weight (therefore inertia) would keep the car going in a straight line...now if youre in a turn...gulp :o

So, after a 6 month long nap, Lorelei is up. She wet the bed in her sleep and lost nearly 3 qts of tranny fluid. Luckily I had some in the trunk to top off. She got an oil change, and full lube job, including joints. I was going to add some rust reforming but that can wait until its nicer. She got new registration and inspection stickers too, and full air in the tires and she was cruising like she should. Like a dream!

I got used to the 73 that gets about 3 ft/gallon lol. Im tring to burn off the old gas, and Im almost 200miles in and still at half a tank.
Black Jack is still out with water in the tank, but he does start up with starer fluid lol.

So I took her out and she got compliments and usual, everywhere I went. I did miss having her out, especially after her bath and wax. I have a car cover too, so no more letting dust coat her while in the garage. 8-)

So, the leaking tranny is really possing me off, as well as causing trouble with the garage where i keep her. So Im gonna have to deal with that, most likely have a shop, since dropping a C6 in the driveway? yeah, not gonna happen

So trans seals replaced, front and back, and pan gasket. And of course a new tail cone, becuase the old one cracked when it came out. I guess it could have been worse. Still, that leak cost me 720 bucks....

Yeah, since the trans had to come out. But it had to be done. If it was my garage I wouldnt care. Id just put in a few quarts of F type and be done with it with how rare I take her out. But then again with the 73 dead I probably will be driving her a bit more now.

So I put her to bed but this last week she decided to fail on so many fronts...of the three horns, two are dead. It might be a connection issue since two horns failing at once is fishy. The pain over the trunk cracked back. It seems garaging her didnt help.

And the steering box is going. I can barely keep the car in lane at anything over 50. So hurray. Wouldnt be an issue if not for barely moving and being broke. Oh well, I'll deal with this stuff in the spring

Im posting here...but I had my surgery and it went really well. Today Im in some pain but I think its because Ive been dealing with call centers from the hospitals, because you know, they make you fill out so much paperwork only to send you bills that somebody in India answers, where you have to spell things like a simple common name.

Anyway, Im ok, and will make a full recovery, so I will probably do the work myself on Lorelei. In the meantime, shes put to bed and tomorrow I should have the 73 done. I just need a fitting because Im using a master cyl for 72 instead of 73. It's what I have.

Ill be more active but Im still not there yet.

Some of you guys know I had a bad accident. I can hardly move. I do have some days when I get a surge of energy enough to do a tune up. The days of serious work are gone though...

So, the question is this...do I start selling my cars? One on hand they make me smile and offer me some kind of happiness. One the other, Im broke, and waiting on lawsuits and disability may drive me in the street. The VA is a joke too...

There's also the entire stash of parts I have. NOS and really hard to find parts, in doubles, triplicates and so on. I dont like the idea of giving it away with the car to somebody that wont car, or drop it on airbags after I went out of my way to keep the car completely original, and documented down to every fuel up...

If I do end up homeless, I may keep the 72 and part with the others and just live in the car. At least I could say I have a nice luxury bedroom/living room/dining room/driver seat
