LINCOLN-MERCURY dealers of The Sixties

Any Lincoln fact related question can be posted here. Questions such as how many Contintenal convertibles were produced in MY1965? How much was the Town Car option in 1969? What size of tire was standard on a 1953 Premiere? or Does the Mark II retractible prototype still exist?

Yep, I saw those postcards and ads a while back when I was searching. Neat building. I think I found one article on one of the Van Curler family members back when I was looking. Can't remember exactly what it was about, though. There's bunches of the classified ads that pop up when searching that are posting job openings.

There's a billiards dealer/trophy-plaque shop in El Paso that has to have been a Lincoln/Continental dealer back in "The Day." Here's why I think so:

Even when gone, the Continental is not forgotten.

As far as the Mercury ad saying it's the only brand with only V8s, what about Lasalle, Imperial, and Continental?

Are you wondering about Philadelphia specifically or the entire Philadelphia DSO (#16?) region which probably includes southeastern Pennsylvania and at least parts of some adjacent states.

Philadelphia is a large city and probably had three or four dealers at any one time but factor in the suburbs or the entire DSO region and the number grows significantly.

Don't know how many for sure but it would be a lot. You'll need more information to be able to determine specific dealership.

You may want to consider getting a Marti Report.

Below the bottom right corner box
LaSalle was powered with Oldsmobile Straight-8 engines from 1934-1936
The first Continental was powered with a V-12, when it was a Lincoln.
The early Imperial was powered by at Straight-6, when it was a Chrysler.

Now to address the concern of "what about when Continental and Imperial were separate marques?"
This is an ad for the 1955 Mercury. Imperial became a separate brand from Chrysler in 1955. Similarly, Continental became a separate brand from Lincoln in 1956. Chances are the copy was written when the 1955 models came out toward the end of 1954. Imperial and Continental did not yet exist, so the claim would be valid. It would be difficult for an ad copywriter to edit based on future events that had not yet occurred (yes, as opposed to future events that had occurred already  ).
