wingless' 1975 Mark IV - Custom Car Cover

Post by wingless »

All of my vehicles are protected when not in use by a custom fit car cover from California Car Cover Company.

My prior covers are all made using the Supremeweave All Weather w/ Fleece Lining material, as they have been stored under a car port.

This Mark IV will always be parked inside my garage, so I instead selected this Satin Fleece Stretch Fit Woven Polyester w/ Fleece Lining indoor cover material. I selected black fabric color and orange custom embroidery color.

Even though it's not listed on the web page and even though I didn't order one, this cover was provided w/ a matching fabric cover bad.

All of my custom fit car covers have been selected w/ the optional manufacturer's logo delete and w/ the optional embroidery, in my case w/ "wingless" text. The logo or the embroidery are super useful, as they provide a rapid indication of the front.

For my exterior covers, under my car port, several times per year I use regular car soap and a garden hose water rinse, while the cover is installed on the vehicle, followed by utility towel then on-vehicle drying, to remove airborne contamination. Also, if the cover gets wet from blown rain, I will use a utility towel to dry / clean the damp or wet exterior fabric.

All of my vehicles are vacuumed, blown, washed, blown and dried after usage, prior to cover installation. It is VERY important that vehicle surface contamination does not get abraded by the cover against the paint finish, so vehicle cleaning first is very important. Also, keeping the cover interior clean is important for the same reason.

The removal / installation procedure I use is to start folding forward from the rear bumper to the windshield. Then I fold back from the front bumper to the windshield. Then fold each side to the middle. Installation is the reverse.

Initially I was apprehensive about this fabric selection, but after having received the cover I am VERY satisfied w/ this selection. This appears ideal for interior storage. This Satin Fleece w/ Fleece material is not as stiff as the Supremeweave w/ Fleece Lining material, so I was initially concerned about folding / unfolding for storage, but those operations work fine.

One thing I discovered is that when the vehicle might include optional exterior equipment, such as rear gasoline jugs on my Jeep CJ-5, or a rear decklid suitcase on my Fiat 500L, then the custom pattern includes extra material to permit fitting when those optional accessories are installed, making those regions slightly floppy w/ those accessories are not installed.

This is fine. He found a cover he likes and he wants to share. I see no commission info in his links.

I am impressed with the stretch fit vs. the blobby, generic fit of the covers I've seen.
