Missing piece/tube/hose/etc within the '82 Mark VI engine

Post by DaSkeeT »

Hello, am seeing if anyone has an idea of what appears to be a missing piece within the engine bay (image below).
Looks like a hose or tube type is missing, connecting the 2 red circles.
Am a complete amateur with anything engine related, so apologies if this is a no-brainer issue/fix.
If anyone knows or has an idea, please let me know.
Cheers!

My guess is it’s the missing tube from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner intake. Its purpose is to direct warm air from the hot exhaust manifold to aid in faster warm-ups. If so, there’s a thermostat in the air cleaner that closes a flap once the engine reaches operating temperature and directs cold outside air to the carburetor. Just an educated guess based on my ‘69 Mark with a similar setup.

Available at any auto parts store. You might measure diameter before going to make sure you get the right one.

It is called a pre heater duct, a flexible cardboard like substance, with an aluminum core. Almost always missing on any used car.
Sold by the foot, so measure diameter and length. and don't put clamps on it, that just looks so tacky!
