Mark III rear vent screw size?

Post by Jberger501 »

Hello fellow Lincolnites! Does anyone know the correct screw size used to fasten the rear vent grille? Mine arrived just sitting in position with no screws. Thanks for any information!

True enough! I just need the correct size fasteners so I don’t strip the threads. When the car arrived at my house on the trailer, I’m surprised that the vent grille stayed in place and didn’t bounce out!

Get a bunch and try to put them in with just your hands. I don't think you've got to worry about this unless you are really young. You didn't say if you were old or young or what year is your car. Most Lincolns used Phillips screws after they were invented. 38s use slotted. Wayne

You forgot the first rule of mechanics.... "Cross thread is the tightest thread"

My wife's Mark is a counter sunk screw. The real question here is if they should be a stainless screw or were they painted over from the factory? We need a picture from Nick's car since it's definitely the most correct.

Probably number 8, coarse threaded sheet metal screws with countersunk/oval Phillips heads.

If you find something close, buy a few different lengths or thread pitches.

The car is a 69 mark. When I brought the car home, I could just lift the grille out of its spot. So I’m 71, which is old to some, and young to others! I have a young mind and attitude, so maybe that knocks a few years off my chronological age!

I’m just guessing based on what Ford uses for various pieces of trim inside and outside of the 60s and 70s.

I applaud jberger for being here at a young 71 years old. When I was his age, it was 2040 and we only had holograms, virtual reality, and AI CHAT bots to talk to.

Wait…. :smt017

And like during that thing called covid, you had to go to school at home? And the walk to the computer was up hill both ways? Wayne

According to the MPC, it’s a 376362-S screw. That’s a #8, stainless Phillips head oval, 3/4” long.

Thanks for the good info. I knew someone would know the right answer.

Back when I was in college in 1971, my dad bought a 69 Mark. He never would let me drive it which shows how wise he was! With all all those 365 horses and 4600+ pounds of mass I probably would have killed myself, not to mention mess up his car! LOL. My daily driver was a VW with 53 hp and all of 1800 pounds. On another age related item, if you had told me back then that life would’ve been this good at this age, I would’ve laughed my ass off! So it turns out that age is just a number after all! Don’t sweat the small stuff. Unless you’re restoring a classic car, that is!

You’re welcome. Now when are we going to see some pictures of the car? We love pictures!

Once I can figure out how to download them. 😆😆 Right now I’m working on refinishing the engine bay, so most of the refinished parts are sitting very pretty in my kitchen. (I’m single, thank goodness!) Today I’m starting on painting the inner fenders.
