I just spent the last two hours replacing the 12v battery in my wife’s car and then the hood wouldn’t latch. Rusted up and binding, it was.
It would not reset and hood onto the hood.
I’ve sprayed it before. So I hit it with WD-40, then silicone spray, and exercised the heck out of it. It still wouldn’t return to the normal position. One of the pivots just wanted to bind up no matter what.
I took a break, went for a mile walk, resented and surfed while listening to an investment YouTube channel then it hit me: blowtorch.
A technique I learned disassembling my Mercury, hit a rusted bolt with a torch, then with your choice of WD-40 or penetrating oil while hot. The part expands enough to suck in the oil (that doesn’t burn off) and eventually, you can break it free.
I wasn’t dealing with threads, but a rivet pivot so it was all friction causing the problem.
Torch, spray, smoke, spray, spray, wiggle and it’s smoother than silk.
Never give up. Never surrender.
