1978 Continental Vacuum Diagram
Hello,
I am helping a friend with a 1978 Continental with the 460 engine. Although the tag is worn, I believe the calibration code to be 8-19B-R11 (part of the code is missing on the label on the valve cover and this is what I could determine from pics online). I have looked online for other posts on the engine/emissions vacuum diagram, ESSDS books for 1978, and cannot find this diagram. I did find 1977 info from someone that posted from a Mitchell manual, but different codes. Any chance anyone has the engine/emissions vacuum diagram for the 8-19B-R11 code?
Thank you
Jeff

Re: 1978 Continental Vacuum Diagram
8-19B-R11 is the complete calibration code.
The other numbers are for the engine plant use. Date assembled. What shift. And other data.
If you have a similar calibration code diagram for the same engine family the vacuum routing will likely be the same or very close.
From year to year the engine engineers would tweet a code for drivability or to get some other result. As such many times the vacuum lines are the same and compoenants are different.
Like a change in a vacuum delay valve, (VDV) from a 3 second delay to a 5 second delay. You the consumer don't really care. And many consumers just drilled a hole through a VDV anyway.
I am pretty sure I have the ESSDS for that model year. That is the good news.
The not so good news is finding it in a small shed with lots of publications poses some challenges.
However this time of year for me is moving to your favor. Triple digit high temps are starting to fade away.
Unless some one else produces one I hope to find it this weekend or by next week.

Re: 1978 Continental Vacuum Diagram
I was sure I had all of the 1978 model year Engine and Emission System diagrams. I do not.
I have a binder for model year 1977 & 1978.
For the 460 engine I have three. All for model year 1977
7-19A R10 - 49 state/Canada Ford/Merc 460 4V AC & Non AC automatic 3.00axle
7-19A R22 - 49 state/Canada Ford, Linc/Mark & Merc 460 4V AC & Non AC automatic 2.50/2.75/3.00 axles
7 19Y R1 - 49 state Ford, Linc/Mark & Merc 460 4V AC & Non AC automatic Altitude 3.00axle
These measure 11 X 17" and are a light green in color

Re: 1978 Continental Vacuum Diagram
These are scanned as pdfs which is likely the better way to do this.
Click on the scan and view.
The last one has had a liquid spilled on it. (Coffee ?) So the quality is not the best
Hope this helps
I do have a 1979 model book. Those are far better quality. They are 8 1/2" X 11" paper which makes storing far easier. (versus the 11 X 17 which are essentially refined copies of blue prints) I can get that book fairly easily. Let me know if that would help.

Re: 1978 Continental Vacuum Diagram
I wish I had the exact one.
For 1978 and earlier Ford published these as a copy of more or less a blue print.
They were available to technicians and published in batches that were sent to the 6400 FLM dealers through out the model year.
Sometimes an advanced copy was included in TSBs but reading that version in an 8 1/2 X 11 TSB was difficult
I think the ones I posted were from Printing #11. I did not have all of the printing jobs from that model year. The one I was most interested in was for a 1978 Granada/Monarch with a 250 six and a JATCO transmission. Because at the time I owned that for a daily driver. The only car I ever bough brand new.
Starting in 1979, Ford got a little smarter since the number of calibrations were starting to get out of hand. They resorted to making drawings similar to an electrical wiring diagram. Far easier to understand. I have many of these from model year 1974 (when they started these) to model year 1986. I left the company in 1986 and no longer received these.
