61 Convertible Pillar Switch Rubber/Foam Gasket

Anything that pertains only to a convertible goes here. Such as: Top material, pads, mechanism, hydraulic pumps, switch and relay mechanisms, latches, etc.

61 Convertible Pillar Switch Rubber/Foam Gasket

I changed out the pillar switch and discovered the rubber/foam gasket that goes over the pillar switch between the body and the jam latch had dried out and shrunk. It was originally sold with with the switch and I have not been able to locate a replacement. It is part number C1VF-14A172-A in the attached file.

Has anyone made a gasket and if so, what material did you use? Any help would be appreciated!

That model year is beyond my experience.

However in other applications I have used bulk edpm material.
For my application I was looking for a specific thickness and grey color.
I used it to make a cornering lamp gasket on a Mercury.

Not sure where I bought on line. And this company sound familiar. Actual now that I think about it I believe I bought the roll on ebay.

I did have to search some to find exactly what I wanted. (Thickness and color) This narrowed the sellers a bit. Then I pulled the trigger.

My lamp assembly no longer has the gasket as it had crumbled away. I did use the lens as a pattern and traced the outline, Cut with a razor blade and made a fairly good gasket. It really isn't seen so the uneven edges didn't matter much. And I have to believe this material is far superior to what was available in the 1960s.

Thank you Action! I will look for a closed cell foam block and try to carve the shape.
