Re: SS exhaust quality, should I complain
In all honesty, I really can't say that it sounds any better or worse than with the old system, before it rotted through of course. This is not necessarily a bad thing, I think it's a good sound overall for a 460.

Re: SS exhaust quality, should I complain
Update, so I just decided to suck it up and install the exhaust. Despite the bad looks, fortunately the install went fairly smoothly. It's amazing that on a 42 year old car not a single bolt or nut was frozen. I do recommend to just cut the old resonators apart at the crossover with a sawzall to rem...

Re: SS exhaust quality, should I complain
Well, I guess mainly what I want is to get an idea of whether or not this is how Baker's has always delivered their exhausts, or if the quality has gone down while the price remains the highest out there. If this is how it's done and what I should expect from a top of the line system then so be it a...

Re: SS exhaust quality, should I complain
So, the explanation I received is that this is done for a reason because there is a lot of bend in the drivers side pipe to maneuver around the steering components and it would be difficult to get the proper bend in the stainless if it were one pipe, and also that this is unique to the 60's models w...

Re: SS exhaust quality, should I complain
Let me first see how it's resolved before I reveal the name, but let's just say it's one of the biggies. They asked to see a picture and I am sending. We'll see, but I'm guessing they will probably take care of it.

Here's a picture. Note that the other pipe is continuous.

SS exhaust quality, should I complain
Hi, I recently bought a SS exhaust for my 69 from one of the usual suspects, mainly because I was assuming there would be no issues in fit and quality. When it arrived, I noticed that one section of one of the long pipes where it goes up to the manifold is made up of about 4 sections of 4-6" of...

Battery Size
After getting my Mariner Hybrid a while back my 93 TC is now rarely used, and needs a new battery. I thought I'd rather by a new battery for my van and put that one in the TC. The van batery is group 34 and the TC battery is group 65. The terminal layout is the same, and although smaller I'm sure it...

Re: Ignition timing, Mark V, 1978, 7.5L
Greeting from the US. If I recall correctly, the timing should actually be 10 degrees BTDC +/- 2. It is set at idle speed with the vacuum line removed from the distributor advance and plugged. If your idle is set correctly you should not need to put it in Drive, park is ok. Look on your driver's sid...

Re: All you need to know about the Crap Cartier clock - w/ pics!
It's been a while, but I think that I did manage to successfully rewind the solenoid in my '69 clock. You need to make sure your winding wire is approximately the same gauge and that you approximately replicate the number of turns and wind in the same direction. Another important step is to clean/sa...

Replacement Vinyl Top and trunk pad for 1978 Mark V
So now that I've confirmed that my engine is in decent shape after replacing the rod bearings I am moving my attention to the appearance. Because of some rust under the vinyl top I removed the top. I will be having the roof repainted but the shop I use doesn't do tops. I've heard it's pretty straigh...

Re: Engine bearing size availability for 460 in 78 Mark
Well, engine is back together and running again. Pressure looks good and no signs of knocking at high temperature. I guess only time will tell if it is indeed a sucessful repair or not.

Re: High flow oil pump for 460
Melling claims that the pump running dry due to lack of volume is a myth, and that there's plenty of volume in a stock pan to handle 20-25% more flow.

Re: High flow oil pump for 460
Yes that is correct, however, given that parts can sometimes be mislabeled or incorrect in some other way I would always recommend checking it (in fact there's a big warning in the box stating this). My comment is more for peace of mind that if you want a high volume pump for your '78 Mark 460 and o...

Re: High flow oil pump for 460
I picked up the oil pump and hardened shaft today. For everyone's information the Melling M84BHVS high flow pump is the same height as the stock pump in the 78 Mark 460. I guess that assumes that the pump in my engine was the stock pump, but no reason to believe this is not the case.
