Re: 1970 Mercury Marquis: Frame-off restoration
All that guy needs is a bar across the roof with 3 or 4 extra headlights to complete the image.

Re: 1970 Mercury Marquis: Frame-off restoration
Went to a car show Sunday and found this. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/mscientist/shows/milk%20pan%202010/ds1.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/mscientist/shows/milk%20pan%202010/ds2.jpg You might want to consider putting different wheels on it. Maybe something like this. http://i68...

Re: 1970 Mercury Marquis: Frame-off restoration
I did mention it was a bit pricey.
Of course if you search the web you should be able to get for only around $1900.

Re: 1970 Mercury Marquis: Frame-off restoration
Going with EFI and an AOD is not really high on my list. If someone could point out some instructions on how to go about this, I would definitely research it. The idea of getting even worse gas mileage is not a positive one. A fourth gear would help on any freeway trips. . Transmission wise the onl...

Re: 1970 Mercury Marquis: Frame-off restoration
Sounds like an interesting project. I agree with not keeping it bone stock, as that only impresses the purest, and you’re the only one that needs to be impressed. The 460 with the up grades you mentioned would be nice. But I would go a step further and consider putting it on a diet to lose some we...

Re: MKII being resurrected! ( with pictures)
Well I haven’t updated this for a while so here is what I’ve been doing. Completed work on my new gas tank, bent the sheet metal into the basic shape and started welding. Not quite square yet. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/mscientist/MKII%20rebuild/agt1.jpg But adding one of the ends str...

Re: Fill 'er up...
The car undoubtedly had air shocks on it at one time.
I have air shocks on my truck for when I carry heavy loads, and it has the same fill valve.
But when not needed you are to maintain 20 lbs in the system to hold the rubber bladder in shape.

Re: OMG, it IS a frackin' Coffee Can!
Isn't it nice to know that Ford spared no expense in trying to find ways to control cost of parts.
Might these have been recycled cans form their cafeteria?
To fix a split try soldering it.

Re: LIMO PROJECT
The molasses trick sounds like an old mechanic’s tale. I would need to see some proof. However the more I thought about this rust removing process the more I wondered just how well it would work. So I did a little experimenting. Found a nicely rusted threaded spacer placed it in a small plastic cu...

Re: LIMO PROJECT
Speaking of cleaning rusty parts here is something you might find interesting and want to try. This link is to a site that tells how to do Electrolytic Rust Removal. I have yet to try it but those that have say it works quite well. It is basically a form of electro-plating in reverse and is simple t...

Actually I was thinking about making a four point star as a hood ornament, but figured I would just wind up breaking it off.

Another body off frame restoration.
I just finished rebuilding another old vehicle and no it is not a Lincoln but rather a Massey Ferguson lawn tractor. I wasn’t even planning on totally redoing it, but one thing lead to another. Seems the mower deck had developed some stress cracks. Am not sure why as it is only about the same age ...

Re: New guy with a 64
If that 42k is real you got a fantastic deal. All you need is some serious cleaning, maybe a fresh coat of paint and check the safety and known maintenance items.
Other then that the only thing to deal with is after driving your VW’s this is going to like piloting the Queen Mary.

Re: MKII being resurrected! ( with pictures)
Thanks for the write-up. Great story. Nice to get such reactions from strangers. How does the car drive (in terms of power)? I'm quite impressed with its performance. So far this is just been a seat of the pants feel, but I do want to do a few 0-60 runs with a stopwatch, but for the moment I can de...
