aftermarket shocks for early 60s Lincolns

KONI #82-1229 (front) and #82-1230 [KONI was way before Bilstein.]

GABRIEL Striders (front) #45205 [Road & Track recommendation]

None of these are likely to be found..... but if you know the part numbers.. and happen to see some at a flea market, you just got lucky!

Eighties Power Steering Pumps

Does the common error of using Dexron in power steering systems.. increase the likelihood of PS pump leaks?

The owners manuals call for Type F in said systems....... though Dexron is okay for the transmissions.

Eighties Power Steering Pumps

Does the use of Dexron in Panther-body FoMoCos.. increase the likelihood of power steering pump leaks?

The owners manual specifies Type F for the power steering systems...... though Dexron is okay for transmissions.

Re: Center Link

I hope that many Lincoln owners have better experiences now than I had a long time ago with "RareParts" of California.

There was a time when they would not allow or accept returns. Hopefully, their policy is more reasonable now.

Re: retainer for headlight adjustment screws

Some preliminary research has informed me.. that the headlamp aim-adjusting screws are held by a piece made of PLASTIC.

Some of us can remember when plastic was new, in the 1950s, and we hated the stuff... 'cause it broke very easily.

It still does --- it just takes a few decades longer . . . .

retainer for headlight adjustment screws

Within the last two weeks, the right side high beam and high-low beam headlights have slipped downward in their adjustment for aim.. due to likely stripping of the plastic screw retainer . There is no evidence that my car was hit.. to cause this. The nice thing is that the rear of the headlights is ...

plastic holder of headlight adjustment screws

Recently, I have been surprised that the plastic holder for the vertical adjustment screw on my '88 Town Car ... seems to have stripped... and the headlight has dropped its aim considerably downward..... without any evidence of the car being struck at the bottom of said headlight, causing the change...

Re: 66 leaf springs

Greggory... You might need new rubber pieces between the new springs and the rear axle.

If you have real trouble locating these, I might still have some new ones.. that were never used.

Re: Wheel Spacers?

FWIW: A long time ago, I bought some front-end parts for a '65 RWD Cadillac. Then I discovered that this fairly-new-to-me Cad had a really bad frame. RareParts would NOT allow me to return the parts! I had to "eat 'em."

Re: installation of pressure hose for steering gearbox

Jeff supplied some good tips for this job.

Thirty-some years later, I still remember the awful difficulty in getting the proper angle for the flare nut to thread into the steering box!.....It took me.. a very long time... and I was a lot younger then, with more patience than I have now!

Re: Where are people getting new Michelins with WWs?

Mr. Ayres, I guess that said UniRoyal tires are more suited to daily drivers, given your disappointment with their propensity for the whitewalls to turn brown much too quickly. They have been less trouble for me.. than most any tire that I've ever owned, FWIW.

Re: Where are people getting new Michelins with WWs?

A 2019 update regarding my experience with P215/70R-15 Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP IIs [whitewalls!] on my two 1980s Town Cars: I find them to be truly excellent. They handle good, and wear quite well. I was doubtful... but my tire man in Providence [RI] that I strongly trust, said that these were made i...

Re: Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition

Admittedly, I was too 'bombastic' or 'crude' in my critique. And it's not something that I have driven. Also, I forgot, at the time, that the comparison was between this modern Continental and an older one----NOT a town car. MY error. However, it seems mighty obvious from the photos.. that the cente...

Re: cleaning old grease from window regulator motors

Make sure that you use vice-grips to solidly grasp the 'loaded' window mechanisms, due to strong spring! The very serious RISK is severely damaged hands / fingers.
