Re: New Owner: 1979 Mark V Bill Blass from France

The 79s had only 2-barrel 400 cu-in motors limiting what you can just drop in. If you just want to replace the original Motorcraft, I recommend the Holley 500 . As for where to buy it, check your local internet for places that will ship to France. If you are adventurous, replace that intake manifold...

Re: Request Input, Terminal Cancer On Subframe

I think the goal is driver-level reinforcement, not restoration, not racing, not tubbing, not lowering. John got the car cheap from his uncle and the motor is newly rebuilt, the car is good condition, but this rot could force junking it. He wants to save the car from likely scrapping. On a budget. T...

Re: Request Input, Terminal Cancer On Subframe

I talked to John today and told him to send all his uncles to this forum. They are the 60s Lincoln brothers (like 8 or so) and they all love their 61-69 Continentals (my speciality).

John sounds like he has the skills to make this happen, but it is a challenge for anyone.

Re: Ballast resistor - clarify ‘69 MK III

Ford uses resistor wire from the ignition switch to the coil. There is no resistor , so to speak. The ballast resistor/wire exists to prevent the coil from overheating during long term running. It's in circuit in RUN, not start. Start sends the full 12V to the coil. If you want to bypass the resisto...

Re: Where does the negative battery lead go?

I have no pictures of where the negative battery cable goes on my 77. It just went “down”.

I never discourage a project. Especially if the owner starts a thread and documents it here!

Re: Request Input, Terminal Cancer On Subframe

For reference, here's the rails on my 67 chicken carcass. It's suitable for convertible or sedan soup, but not much meat left for a meal.

Re: Request Input, Terminal Cancer On Subframe

This is very severe in a critical area for the rear of the vehicle. He could easily spend half of what the car is worth to do it right. He needs a local welder/restorer to do a hoist inspection and just quote it out. Bail at 50% of vehicle value. I have a Conv chassis in my yard in better shape. If ...

Re: Where does the negative battery lead go?

Well, John got his coupe back and is jumping right in with authenticity questions.

I thought it had a green vinyl top. Did that sale fall through or get paused too long so you bought another?

Re: 1966 Lincoln Continental Timing Chain Replacement

And I converted mine to the bigger, bulkier, thicker, crazy heavier bracket. I was sure mine was not original. Found this in the 65/66 MPC: Alternator Bracket C3VY-10151-A.jpg This matches what I have now and what I got off a 67 Parts car. Maybe even a 68 462. This is what I found in the 60-64 MPC: ...

Re: 1966 Lincoln Continental Timing Chain Replacement

Remember when I said I wouldn’t ask any more questions?? Well I lied.. I almost finished but got rained on and lost daylight.. I did enough work where I was able to start the car (no radiator or auxiliaries so I only ran it for about 1 minute) to check for leaks. Everything looks great so far.. it ...
