The retainer clips were developed to avoid the problem of having to swage the sockets into place, as original.
The clips hold the sockets in place from the bulb side.
I have provided sequential conversion kits for several 1966-67 Lincoln owners.

Chances are the sockets themselves have the same diameter ... However, the harness above will likely not work for Lincolns.... The back of the cast taillight bezel appears to be a similar depth as the Thunderbird - probably because the same 1157 bulb is used. The vinyl socket seal is bent to 90 deg...

Here's what I found online for a potential replacement socket. I may order a set and see if they fit or can be made to fit. What is the outer diameter of the socket?
