Window "rollers" that don't really roll, on purpose.

On the Lincolns, Continentals and Thunderbirds, they used window guides, or glides, but the things people call "rollers" really aren't supposed to roll. The window mechanism uses arms that that have a pin with a groove at their base. This groove is just a latch for a spring-loaded clip tha...

Mark IIIs. Why do people persist in believing advertising?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Why people believe that the 1958 Mark III isn't a Lincoln is beyond me when every single 1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III is fitted with a dash plaque that says this. Wolk_Lincoln_Continental_Mark-III_Badge.jpg I wrote an article on the subjec...

Re: Trailering

I have seen the trailer when it was being built. The back end was cut off and was being modified to make the entry doors. It was crashed once on the way to a show with his Mark II inside. The Mark was not damaged much. At the time I had an Airstream and Barry's build made it to the Airstream Forums...

Actually, it became a Division when the Mark II project was announced in November of 1953 at the first LCOC meeting.

Re: Naked top Mark III

I was already speculating that it was going to be yours, Barry, congratulations. Wayne You, and a few other people! The car will be here Monday. One stop at Ford first, and then here. The driver was gushing that the underside is as clean as the topside. Sandy sent a ton of paperwork, more provenanc...

Naked top Mark III

So, I did what I said I wan't going to do. I bought another Lincoln. A naked-top Continental Mark III. There were 95 produce of 30,000 made for the 1969 model year. None made in subsequent years. In "1968 1/2", as some people like to call the cars (not me), Lincoln started production of th...

Re: Mark III naked top. How many exist?

The same thing happened for Mustang (another Iacocca model in addition to Mark III) It was initially sold in March 1964 as a 1965 model. However the initial months of those Mustangs are generally referred to by fans as 64 1/2. And by serial number there are no Mustangs in model year 1964 Action Jus...

Re: Mark III naked top. How many exist?

The production run of the very long 1969 Continental Mark III model run was filled with running changes. It was a car that was a work in progress. By the 1970 model run it was like the model was finally finished with the running changes. Action Funny, the production of the Mark II began at the same...

Re: Mark III naked top. How many exist?

It occurred to me that Mark III is also missing something else: Head rests. Since the info on the warranty plate is not available, I can't say this definitively; but I suspect that's one of the early cars done during the '68 or very early '69 model run, when head rests were still optional (and pret...

Re: Mark II documents for charity

After crashing the '42 Lincoln Zephyr and nearly losing our lives, things changed. I started doing things that benefit others as a hobby.

Mark II documents for charity

I am fortunate to be the recipient of historical Mark II documents and photographs, most notably the collected works of Elmer Rohn, Willard Hess and others. I have asked for, and received, permission from Ford to monetize these sought-after images digital images for the benefit of my favorite Detroi...
