Stupid question but did you try revving it up a bit while taking voltage? Some alternators don't work at low speeds. But does sound like it's bad based on what you've gone thru.

Yes. I did rev it and it stayed at about 12v. I then cut the headlights on and the volts dropped to 11.8. At that point I knew it was the alternator.

I will call the outfit I bought it from and see if they will exchange it. (fingers crossed)
