1966 Cigarette Lighters
Another question for the forum team please:
This pic shows the two different styles of cigarette lighters in my 66 4 door sedan. I have one of the large style in the front dash ashtray, and three of the other smaller style cigarette lighters, one in the passenger front and rear doors, and one in the driver rear door.
Should all 4 lighters be the same size and shape? Is the front dash ashtray cigarette lighter different from all the door cigarette lighters?
These two pics come from Dan. This is the style cigarette lighter Dan has in his front dash ashtray of his 66 convertible. His door cigarette lighters, are the same style as my door cigarette lighters.
Do i need this style for my car? Again any info is greatly appreciated!

Re: 1966 Cigarette Lighters
My '67 sedan had lighters that were all the same, which would be #3 or the right one pictured above.

I think that last style was only for the dashboard to mimic the look of the other knobs and switches.

Re: 1966 Cigarette Lighters
The curved flowered one is mine from the front ashtray. The short style is what the doors use. I have spares of those.
But what does a factory front lighter knob look like for 1966 67 68 and 69?
Note that mine has the bezel for those who don’t know what a “lighter” should look like!

Don’t know what’s correct, but the one in your front ashtray is identical to the ones in first edition Mustangs.

Re: 1966 Cigarette Lighters
I do; for 1966, '67, '68, and '69, the #3 in Steve's picture is the correct answer for all four lighters. As they were all placed right next to ash trays, they were designed to be concealed when the ash trays were covered or retracted.
Now, that established, here's a little extra info, just in case somebody notices a similarity between the heating elements of #1 and #3. The elements are in fact the same; only the knobs are different. The knobs are removable to make elements replaceable whenever they burn out; you may need caliper-shaped pliers to grasp the element while trying to unscrew the knob, but it does come off.
New elements could be had with ease in the past, but nowadays not quite so much, except maybe in larger part outlets like Pep Boys or the like...maybe. If I remembered the general part number for the elements, I'd share it here for anyone who would want a functional cigarette lighter...but it had been years since I bought new lighter parts for Frankenstein.

Re: 1966 Cigarette Lighters
I just sent a lengthy PM, and forgot to mention that I have extra lighters, I'll throw one in. The one with "lighter" on it was used in trucks, slightly different before and after the '67 restyle, but once again I'm getting way off topic!
