Replicating that "blue" stuff on new tires

Post by John Mc »

So about a week ago I found and bought a NOS 9.50 X 14 tire on Ebay. The tire has never touched the ground. But someone in the past had washed all of the "blue" protectant off the tire. So, I was wondering, how can I re-apply it for that factory NOS look and still use something that could be washed off just like the original? Ended up going to Hobby Lobby and picking up a washable paint, you know the stuff pre-schoolers work with. I mixed it with water put it in my spray gun with about 20 lbs of air and here it is. It's probably the answer to a question that no one will ever ask but I'm pretty happy with the results. Thought I would share it.

ha! You are definitely passionate about originality. Looks good and I guess it does help protect the WW while stored.
Have you washed it off, just to make sure it does not leech into the WW? Since it's finger paint, I'd assume you're good to go, but you never know.

a stickler for details isn't a bad thing, but is that the correct shade of blue? :smt017

To my knowledge, new cars did not come with blue on the tires, from the factory or the dealer. The dealer did not have to clean it off. They came perfectly white. The blue stuff is for tire shops, not factory cars.

John is incorrect, unless he can produce an original spare tire with blue marks on it, I deduct him 1 whole point for originality.

One of my 77 Mark V's has the original spare with the parting film still on it. It has yellowed with age but looks like it was green. That ( Blue coating ) is parting film that lets the tire release from the mold.

Not sure what you are asking.
This is an NOS 1961 9.50 X 14 tire - not a repop - never on the ground.
